Flyfisher
Stream Tippets and Innovative Results

I enjoyed reading the article
you wrote on the October Olive. It was very refreshing as I'm looking
out at 2ft of snow. I had major back surgery in November and I'm experiencing
a slow recovery, hopefully I can be on the Breeches by May. I am looking
forward with much enthusiasm to using the October Olive again because
the trout really reacted well to that fly.
Hope to see you on the stream
soon.

Hi Gene,
The tie is one given
to a friend of mine last spring. He got the fly from "Doc"
Wally Myslanski, a retired surgeon from Greensburg, Pa. who is an Erie
steelhead guide in his retired years. The only thing different I have
tried is to add 15 wraps of .10 lead wire on some ties so I can fish
it without an indicator. When I saw " Doc" using it he had
his client using a "thing-ama-bob" indicator with no weight
and the fly only about 16-18 below the indicator. He was fishing it
in very shallow moving water. However, not using an indicator allows
you to work it in clear water and work it only by raising your rod tip
to move the fly.
I caught the fish
below the Stop Sign Hole on Walnut about 30 yards down from the first
dam using a 3X tippet in clear water. Actually, it was a very strange
day. There was not one fisherman fishing the Manchester hole that morning
and not many fishermen where we were. Just a lucky day for us. A small
run had come in right after we arrived in the afternoon. That night
a larger run had come in and we just happen to be there.
I might have to
pack in a snow shovel if I plan on going up anytime soon!! By the predicted
numbers there should be about 45" of snow that has fallen in the
last four days!
Take care and keep
the snow shovel handy,
SCOTT
